FAQ
No. Requirements & Systems Portal is a flexible, industry-agnostic platform that supports the development of complex hardware products, including electronic, mechanical, and software systems. It is currently used by customers in a wide range of industries, such as aerospace, medical devices, automotive, consumer electronics, robotics, and energy.
Requirements & Systems Portal's native connection to Altium Designer and other ECAD tools via Altium 365 makes it particularly well-suited for electronic hardware applications. We will continue to focus on developing features that support the workflows of electronic hardware development and embedded software teams.
The main Requirements & Systems Portal application is organized into six modules: Project, System Design, Requirements, Analyses, Scripting, and Verification & Validations. Additionally, requirements are accessible within supported Altium 365 applications and Altium Designer.
The capabilities of Requirements & Systems Portal related to requirements management include:
- Centralized Cloud Platform: Move away from spreadsheets and organize requirements in a secure cloud platform with an intuitive interface, live commenting, and full change history.
- AI Assistant: Create clearer, smarter requirements in less time. Quickly break down incoming system requirements into clear electrical specifications with an AI assistant.
- Comments & Alerts: Engage your team's experts in requirement review processes to arrive at the best possible specifications.
- Link Requirements to PCB Designs & Schematics: Give engineers constant access to clear system requirements and specifications in the right context. Changes to requirement statuses automatically propagate across the platform.
- Live Dashboards & Analytics: Monitor project progress and requirement verification status on live dashboards to quickly identify and resolve non-compliant design issues.
- Templated Document Export & Shareable Reports: Keep stakeholders informed with self-updating, shareable reports and automatically generated project documentation.
- Parametric Requirements & Continuous Verifications: Turn numerical requirements into parameters and create verification rules that automatically compare system performance to functional targets.
- Scripting & Automations: Create smart automations or write scripts to streamline any requirements or systems design-related tasks or customize the platform to your specific needs.
- Reusable Requirements & System Data: Kickstart new projects or configure modular product offerings by reusing requirements and system data from existing projects.
Requirements & Systems Portal allows engineering teams to design and model complex systems and processes, using an intuitive visual interface. The tool enables you to apply agile best practices while adhering to traditional systems engineering principles, such as the V-model.
The System Design module allows you to define system attributes as blocks, model system data with formulas, parameters, matrices, and external datasets, and create and visualize subsystem connections. This ensures that all system components and relationships are clearly defined and traceable.
Additionally, Requirements & Systems Portal enables a direct connection between design intent and implementation through the creation of continuous verification rules. These rules compare live systems data modeled in the tool or collected from external sources to parametrized numerical requirements.
Requirements can be directly imported into Requirements & Systems Portal from spreadsheets (.XLS or .CSV file), giving you a direct path to connecting to whichever platform or system your organization currently uses.
We offer integrations or add-ons to the following tools:
- Excel
- Matlab Toolbox
- SolidWorks
- Duro PLM
- SimScale
Additionally, our open API enables you to connect Requirements & Systems Portal to external tools using any programming language with web connectivity.
Altium does not collect or use customer data to train the AI Assistant of the Requirements & Systems Portal.
The AI Assistant of Requirements & Systems Portal uses a Large Language Model (LLM) to automate engineering tasks.
With the AI Assistant, you can:
- Generate Requirements
- Improve Requirements
- Breakdown Requirements
- Create Summary
- Parametrize Requirements
- Find Inconsistencies
- Quality Assessment
Additionally, users can write custom prompts to tailor the outputs of the AI Assistant to their needs. Users can also create custom actions that leverage Python scripts and AI to automate and improve their project workflow.
